Dear Students and Families,

Welcome to the 2026–2027 school year at M.S. 137! It is with great excitement and optimism that I welcome both our returning families and those joining our school community for the first time. A new school year brings new opportunities to grow, challenge ourselves, and build meaningful experiences together, and I am eager to begin this journey with you.

For more than two decades, I have proudly served the students and families of District 27, including over 20 years at M.S. 137, and my connection to this community runs especially deep. As someone who was born and raised in Ozone Park, I understand the strength, pride, and close-knit spirit that define our neighborhood. These deep ties to the community remain at the forefront of my leadership and continue to guide the work we do at M.S. 137 each day in support of our students and families.

My educational journey began as a fifth-grade teacher at P.S. 108 before bringing my passion for innovation and student learning to M.S. 137, where I began my career in 2005 as a Technology Teacher. Over time, I had the privilege of growing alongside this school community—first advancing into the role of Technology Coordinator for a number of years, then serving as an Assistant Principal, and ultimately becoming Principal of M.S. 137. Each chapter of this journey has strengthened my commitment to ensuring that every student receives a high-quality education in a school environment where they feel supported, challenged, and inspired to succeed.

Throughout my career, I have remained deeply passionate about helping students think critically, embrace innovation, and develop the skills needed to succeed in an ever-changing world. Since becoming Principal, it has been a privilege to work alongside our dedicated staff to strengthen the academic and social-emotional experiences of every child who walks through our doors.

At M.S. 137, our commitment to excellence continues to evolve as we prepare students for success both inside and beyond the classroom. This year, we will deepen our focus on curriculum and instruction to ensure alignment with District priorities and best practices that promote rigorous, engaging, and student-centered learning experiences across all content areas. We remain committed to strengthening literacy, critical thinking, and meaningful student discourse while ensuring that every classroom fosters independence, confidence, and academic growth.

Preparing students for the future also means creating authentic opportunities that connect learning to the real world and allow them to explore their passions beyond the traditional classroom setting. Through our many program offerings and initiatives—including VE-JV, musical productions, after-school academic and enrichment programs, clubs, leadership opportunities, and more—students will continue to build confidence, collaboration, creativity, and real-world skills that prepare them for success both now and in the future. As we continue expanding innovative opportunities for students, we remain committed to fostering experiences that inspire curiosity, celebrate student voice, and help every child discover their unique strengths and interests.

At the same time, we recognize that strong student outcomes begin with strong teaching. Through expanded teacher leadership opportunities, professional learning, and collaboration around effective instructional practices, we will continue strengthening pedagogy to ensure every student benefits from engaging, high-quality instruction every day. As technology continues to shape education and the world around us, M.S. 137 remains committed to staying ahead of the curve by enhancing our 1:1 device program and exploring innovative tools that support digital literacy, creativity, and meaningful learning experiences. Our goal is for students to not only use technology effectively, but to become confident creators, thinkers, and problem-solvers prepared for an ever-changing future.

Above all, M.S. 137 remains a place where students come first. We are committed to fostering a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment where every child feels seen, valued, and empowered to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. We firmly believe that strong partnerships between home and school are essential to student success, and we look forward to working together throughout the year.

As we begin another exciting chapter, I encourage all students to embrace new challenges, stay curious, and approach each day with positivity and purpose. Remember our school motto: “Attitude is a little thing that makes a big difference.” Together, we will make this school year one filled with achievement, growth, and memorable experiences.
